Two Decades Traced in Time's Soft Ink UJ@20

A dream

When I was about to finish high school, I was not sure if I wanted to go where the other kids wanted to go which is getting higher education whether at a varsity or a college. The reason for that is during that time I had discovered some talents I can use to make a living from they just needed more practice for improvement, but I was young and dumb with no plan. In my heart I knew if I wanted to go varsity it has to be the University of Johannesburg. Most of my family are graduates from the University of Johannesburg and they have convinced me to study at UJ by the way they share their experiences during their years at UJ.

Education, Stories, Reputation and Growth

The way that they shared their experience about the University of Johannesburg it gave me a feeling that the university represented hope, success, growth and freedom. I knew the benefits of getting higher education was to study get good grades, choose a career, increased earning, and enhanced career opportunities, but I only had limited information. According to University of Essex states that, other benefits of attending varsity, you can explore passions, network and build lifelong friends, access to resources and facilities, exposure to diversity and global perspective and also personal development. I also knew that studying at UJ will come with its challenges, like one of them is getting lost when looking for your class on your first day when we open February. When I got accepted at UJ I knew I had to go to the big city of dreams and face new challenges, meet new people and work hard on my academics. Being part of the University of Johannesburg means almost every day I participate in UJ activities in that way I feel included and building new relationships with peers at the same time.

Welcome to UJ

Being a student at the University of Johannesburg has been a great advantage for me and I am happy to celebrate with them together 20 years of learning. Being a student here has helped me get more outside of my comfort zone by giving challenging tasks that need time and attention. Such tasks encouraged me to think creatively, challenge myself to solve problems faster and mostly under pressure, even though sometimes I think the work can be too much. I also learned the true meaning of  TEAM, which is Together Everyone Achieve More

Working more with group members also contributed to boosting my confidence because it encouraged me to collaborate with different people who behave differently, but at the end of the day we communicated effectively and got the job done. Collaborating with people who you are familiar with makes the job easier. Its been three years working with my group members and every year we have been improving and getting better scores.

The University of Johannesburg also has a positive relationship with its community they contribute to the community by fostering community engagement where students get to participate in daily activities. The activities help students to be more engaging, collaborating with their community to help children, keeping the environment clean and learning new skills. These skills are essential in the world of business, for example us the Public Relations students the skills we have learned are how to use and manage media. We were also challenged by our lecture to research and work together with our community. Which was an example of how the university contributes to social development and community through research and education. The University of Johannesburg has worked together with its community by providing safety for students, not using products that can harm the environment (eco friendly), being transparent all the time.

Still Evolving

We are one proud institute which always provide quality education to everyone. I believe that the future of UJ is in safe hands because it is full of students who are goal driven, creative and want to raise the UJ logo high. My hope for the future of Johannesburg is that it may continue including students from diverse backgrounds and improve on technology and learning for more safety and more learning tools for the upcoming students. I wish this fine institution can achieve their vision and mission which is to be reached globally and transforming humanity through education. The improvement of infrastructure for more space so that the  institution can get more students every year. The University of Johannesburg is where the future is reimagined.

Seeing that you had a goal to keep the cycle going and growing by going to UJ is so beautiful to witness and read about more especially tapping into your interests which have so much potential in making you a better person. Being lost in the buildings of UJ is so true 😂that’s a situation close to home but look at how far you’ve come 🥹and how far you’ll grow with UJ.
